   NORTH IDAHO CLASSIC CAR CLUB

Club News May 2008

OLD BUSINESS

Ken Johnson passed a sign up sheet for volunteers to sell ice cream cones at the Relay for Life on May 30 & 31.. Dreyer's will donate 8 five gallon tubs of ice cream, the club just needs to   buy cones and napkins. We can buy 300 cones for $22 or 846 cones for $49 from URM. Bob Evans made a motion we buy the cones and half of the proceeds would go to Relay for Life and      half would      go to  the Gene Fuson Fund. Jack Miller seconded the motion. Motion passed. George Rekow said he would donate the cones. (Thanks George!). We will sell cones Friday and Saturday for $1 a scoop.

Everyone bring your classic cars to park in the designated area.     Larry Sherman reported on the Shakedown Cruise. We started at the Route 53 Diner and cruised over         some scenic backroads ending at the Longhorn Barbecue in the Spokane Valley where we had lunch.

The cruise to the Steer Inn in Spokane in May was rained out, so Larry is looking for another date to try scheduling this again.

The next club meeting will be a potluck barbecue at the North (White Pines) Park on N. Spokane Street in Post Falls. The club will provide the hamburgers and sausages, table service and drinks. Please bring side dishes and desserts to share. The dinner will be at 6:00 p.m. With the meeting to follow at 7:00. There is a covered area so we will be     there rain or shine. You might want to bring a chair.

We still need volunteers for the Car D' Lane cruise and car show. Sign up sheets were passed again. All of the money from the cruise goes to our club. We need to have        enough people to   man the cruise. Members  will receive half price show registration and Car D' Lane t shirts at a special 'volunteers only' price. Club members will be able         to all park together between  4th & 5th during the show. There will be limited room so be there early. One of our club members, Virgil Ward, will be taking pictures during the cruise and show. These pictures will be  posted on Rods & Customs Magazine web site.Posters and Applications for Car D' Lane were available at the meeting.

Bob Evans had sign up sheets for volunteers for helping with the River City Rod Run. He really needs volunteers to help with the Poker Run on Friday, July 11. Volunteers           will man the various poker stops. Applications are starting to come in for the show.

Ed Collins is making us two large posters to hang up at Car D' Lane registration that will have the 'cruise only' price and rules. They will be 2' x 3' and made of a corrigated plastic with grommets for hanging. We hope they will eliminate some of the confusion over the new 'cruise only' price of $10 and the change of years to 1972 or older. Ken Johnson made a motion to  pay the cost of $32 per sign, Larry Sherman seconded. Motion passed.

Bob Evans gave details about the Garage Tour to be held June 1 at 12:30 p.m.We will meet at Hot Rod  Cafe. There will be 5 stops with about 30 to 45 minutes at each. First      we go to Dave Rurey's shop on East Riverview, then to Steeley Joe's / Coronado Classics on 4th Street in Coeur d' Alene, then to Larry Sherman's shop, Eric & Julie Simpson's shop and Stann &  Caren Bryants. From there we will go to Sonic Burger in Post Falls for burgers & drinks.

NEW BUSINESS

Kelly Lundquist, from Muffler's Plus, said that they are having their car show again this year on June 7, right after the Post Falls Day Parade. This year they are having a swapmeet, and a Roy Orbison impersonator. Kelly also has our club signed up for the Post Falls Days Parade on June 7. We will line up on 6th Street (the Frontage Road behind Walgreens) by 10:00 a.m. Caren Easterly said that she would like to hear about shows and events that members attend, to write about in the newsletter.

Dennis Marshall announced that the Route 53 Diner in Rathdrum has sold and Julie will be closing it by June 9.  Bob Evans said that they have some merchandise and décor left for sale if anyone wants to check it out. We have been having our Thursday night cruises at the Diner for a couple of years and will miss going there. Best wishes to Julie in what ever she decides to do next.

Brenda Marshall made a motion that we start having Thursday night cruises at Sonic Burger in Post Falls. Gail Whitman seconded the motion, motion passed. Marshalls will contact Sonic and let them know we will be coming there.

Gail Whitman said that it is not to late to get signed up for the Nelson Car Show trip on September 5 & 6, but try to do it by June 15.

Larry Easterly said the he and Caren will give the  Gene Fuson Memorial Scholarship this year at the River City Fiddle Fest on Sat. May 31. A check for $375 will be given to one young fiddler out of the scholarship fund. The winner of the scholarship is chosen by the Fiddle Fest judges.

50/50 winner of $51 was Tom Leach.

     Meeting was adjourned

     Respectively submitted

     Caren Easterly, Secretary

The next meeting will be June 17th, 2008 at 6:00 P.M. at the North Park in Post Falls

    RIVER CITY ROD RUN

The 11th  Annual River City Rod Run this year will be on July 11 & 12 at the Hot Rod Cafe in Post Falls. There will be a Poker Run on Friday night with cash prizes and a surprise mystery prize. There will again be the burn-out contests and flame throwing. Live music will be playing  for dancing. Saturday will be the car show, with live music all day and in the evening. There will be lots of fun stuff going on for adults and kids. We will need a lot of volunteers for this event, sign up sheets will be at the meetings or contact Bob Evans to volunteer.

Sunshine Committee

A special reminder to all members of the NICCC… For those of you who may not know, we have a Sunshine Committee that sends greeting cards, gift certificates, flowers or a donation to a charity of their choice for members who have been ill, had a stay in the hospital or have lost a loved one. On a happy note---special occasions such as a new baby, special anniversary, or special birthday, etc. In order to do this effectively, we need your help on this. We don’t always know what is happening and would certainly feel terrible if we missed someone as I am sure we probably have. Please give anyone of us listed below a phone call if you happen to know or hear of
anyone we could send some “cheer to”.
Thank you.
